An analysis of the data shows each state and its number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onlinetech.com\/secure-hosting\/hipaa-compliant-hosting\/resources\/what-is-a-hipaa-violation\">HIPAA violations<\/a> by covered entity, business associate, breach type, date of breach and the amount of individuals affected.<\/p>\n<p>The breakdown of states and number of breaches are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>39%<\/strong> Less than 3 breaches<\/li>\n<li><strong>39%<\/strong> 4 to 9 breaches<\/li>\n<li><strong>15%<\/strong> 10 to 20 breaches<\/li>\n<li><strong>7%<\/strong> More than 21 (the highest being 36).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The incident with the greatest amount of individuals affected included Health Net and their business associate, IBM from California, affecting 1.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to avoid a HIPAA breach is prevention.
