He shared some BCDR wisdom that was too good not to pass on.<\/p>\n<p>As highlighted in the quote above, disaster recovery plans are not a one size fits all solution. Lance explains that when he\u2019s helping to create a backup and recovery solution, there are certain things to be listening for, like RTO (Recovery Time Objective, which refers to how quickly the system would need to be back up and running) and RPO (Recovery Point Objective, which helps him to understand how often the data needs to be backed up). Lance noted that this information should be different application to application, so you\u2019ll want to think of them individually instead of as one company-wide objective.<\/p>\n<p>Another huge topic Lance will be touching on during the workshops is understanding what your environment looks like. In his 30+ years as an IT professional, he\u2019s encountered lots of people who don\u2019t know how many servers they have, what operating system they\u2019re using, how much disk space they have, and so on. \u201cLots of people go headlong into DR without knowing exactly what they have. It\u2019s not good, because there are tons of backup products, but it\u2019s really all about recovery. You only backup because you\u2019re expecting to recover.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, Lance will be speaking about different products and how to find the right technology to suit your company\u2019s backup needs. Self-proclaimed \u201cproduct agnostic\u201d, Lance explains they have many different products they use, in order to provide the right solution for each client. It\u2019s not just the product that makes the solution, though.
