The aim of the conference was to grow and learn within the big data field and prepare for the exponential amounts of data that are being created with the <a href=\"https:\/\/otavawebsite.wpengine.com\/blog\/whats-ahead-for-the-internet-of-things\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Internet of Things (IoT)<\/a>. The conference was called \u201cThe Tipping Point,\u201d and according to the Big Data website, leaders wanted to focus on \u201ccreating a big data culture of success and exploring topics such as thinking and doing things differently than you or your organization have ever done before. Another important piece of the Conference will be taking a look at the new tools and technologies that have hit the market.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16693\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16693\" style=\"width: 152px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-16693\" src=\"https:\/\/otava.test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/yan-ness-website.jpg\" alt=\"Yan Ness, CEO\" width=\"152\" height=\"190\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16693\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Yan Ness<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Online Tech\u2019s CEO, Yan Ness, was a speaker at the event, and talked about how a CEO evaluates a security spend and how a CIO can convince him to increase the budget for IT security. Yan stressed the importance of data protection and how It is not valued enough by most top executives. During his discussion, he pointed out that everyday items such as office furniture are routinely valued on a company\u2019s balance sheet, yet arguably its most important asset, its data, is not. As a CEO, he asked, how much would you be willing to spend to regain customer trust and get your reputation back? Or keep it in the first place?<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers at the conference included Google Cloud Platform, Eli Lilly, and Dow Agrosciences. Discussions included new tools being used in big data, data and the IoT in emergency services, and using threat intelligence to build cybersecurity solutions.<\/p>\n<p>We had a great time at Indy Big Data!
