Most recently, a United States District Court in New Jersey upheld the FTC\u2019s authority to penalize Wyndham Hotel and Resorts for \u201cfailure to maintain reasonable and appropriate data security for consumers\u2019 sensitive personal information.\u201d In this case, failure to implement reasonable data safeguards resulted in multiple data breaches of consumer payment card information as well as personal information including address, social security numbers, and other identifying data.
